About to start the project finally

Im about to start my turbo project for my 5.5 gen like I have been saying since sept. The reason it wasn't done is because the shop was closing, and the guy didn't have time to do the custom work because he was busy selling the shop and cleaning it up for the new owners. The reason I said this is because I don't want peopel saying "didn't he say he was going turbo a while ago?", that's correct but that's the only person I trust with my car. Im goign with a garrett gt35r turbo, hks bov, tial 38mm wastegate, and some bulls**T ebay FMIC. I have more goodies I have to purcahse of course, but I wanted to know if you guys had the money and vq35 motor, how much boost would you run on stock internals. I was going to do my internals over, but I didn't realize how costly it is to get a block bored over for oversized pistons. So how much boost would you guys run? Im thinking from 5-7 psi to start, then when I get more money do the internals over. Oh yeah, fuel isn't an issue, im going with some 550cc's so I will have enough fuel. Lemme know what you guys think, I know im gonna blow up eventually, but I just wanna know when im REALLY PUSHING IT. Thanks.

I would run 6 psi for a while and get an EXCELLENT tune (I can't stress this one enough, don't join the statistics of guys who have blown their motors by neglecting tuning). That should put you in the 350-380whp range and be very reliable. At that power level you should have enough to smoke the sh*t out of the vast, vast majority of cars on the road.

GT35R I went with a GT40 because I didnt have enough money. As for how much boost to run before you do internals, Im not really sure but looking around on my350z.com should help you out on how much whp you can put down on stock internals. Which 550cc injectors are you going with?

I heard of 550whp on stock internals. But if you want it to be very reliable I would keep boost to single digits, especially with that giant snail.

I heard the gt35r will spool real quick, and I drive around with drag radials all the time, I just can't wait for the torque in first and second gear. We are currently designing the kit, what we are going to do, where the pipes will run, what we wont need etc. I think my project will be big for the vq35 enthusiasts on here, and give some hope to those who want to boost their vq35's....

Good luck with the project.

Good luck with your project star. My car will be boosting early next month, but I just need the purchase the 3" inch piping. And I too said I was going to boost since sept too, so it's good to finally get things rolling.

What a/r are you getting for GT35R? what housing on the hotside?
Mines's .68a/r T4 and I do see boost a lot sooner than I thought (especially with the a EBC), I get instant boost on a roll in sec gear and the car doesnt lag at all under normal driving. On your motor, I would go 5psi initially for the debugging stage and turn it up to 6-8psi as a daily thing. I've heard mix stories about the 3.5 stock motor not being able to handle higher boost so be careful when you do turn it up just in case. Also make sure you take plenty of pics and good luck!

Im gonna go with a .63 a/r, that thing should spool up pretty quick, and the way we ARE TRYING to do the exhaust piping, it really should. I don't want to do the reverse y-pipe, we are working on a setup on were I can use my stock exhaust manifolds and use the flanges from it, and make custom pipes to meet both of the exhaust pipes into one for the turbo housing. I have a great welder who has been doing this for 15+ years. I just hope everything goes as planned, and would my injectors be maxed out at 5psi with a fuel pump and vafc?

fuel shouldnt be a issue at 5psi as long as you have some form of fmu

My car is fuel returnless cmax, so I can't use a fmu or fpr. I would have to make my car fuel return then I could do it, and that would be more money, I would just go with some 440cc's and call it a day.

Vafc-II, and some 440cc's. Im gonna be dumping alot of fuel with the 440cc's I believe, but maybe I can lean it out with the wideband, the vafc, and a dyno....

Are you going with 440s or 550s? Your first post says 550s and then next you say 440s.

You are just tuning this with SAFC? I definately wouldn't go over 5psi maybe 6 with just SAFC. On a VQ35 that should be good for 350-375whp or so. I think the 2k2 guys have the ability to have their timing permanently retarded with a consult correct? If that is the case you should get that done if you want to make any more than 5-6psi (or get a different tuning device so you can do it).

I think everyone has their own connects, I have a spot out in LI, and a spot in the hood. The welder guy im gonna use is a PROFESSIONAL, and has be welding 15+ years(clean piping ). Im pretty sure everyone should be coming out around the sametime tho, hopefully we don't run into much problems.
