I tried, How do you remove the center console!!!
I have an AUTOMAGIC!!! All the directions i can find are for 5-speeds.
I removed the ashtray screw, cubby scew, and 2 screws on each side at the base of the console in back. It still is attached somehow at the shifter area. I can lift the console up but i see my stock fake wood bezel area bending up. I dont want to break it. What am i doing wrong here? I am removing it so i can install the leather e-brake boot.

This is from the 2k2 ESM, but I know others have used with success for previous 5th gens. I don't think there is a difference between auto and stick because the ESM only gives one description. Hope it helps.

there are two screws under the shifter boot that have to be removed...then the trim snaps out of the pockets on both sides
open up the cubby hole in the center console and peel back the felt..there is another screw there
there are two small screws on each side by the edge of the seats...push the seats back and take those out...then push the seats foward and remove the two that are on the bottom and closer to the rear ashtray/lighter element
once you print out the pdf directions..it makes all the sense in the world...but once you put it back in...TEST AND MAKE SURE THE REAR ASHTRAY HAS ROOM TO SLIDE IN AND OUT cause if you don't you have to take all the screws out and make sure you have it aligned correctly
I was so proud of myself when I took it out!!! Have fun and drink a beer when you are done
