hey my stock bose sub went out, so i bought a aftermarket sub and amp, got the wiring kit, and a line out converter. im a total noob, but i want to learn how to do it myself instead of pay 100-200 bucks for installation. i have a stock h/u and speakers... where from here? lol

Here's a couple very useful threads with info about replacing the Bose system.

Unfortunately for us Bose-ians, we gotta replace the entire system - speakers, sub, amp, and head unit.
Metra makes a good dash kit (and I think someone said the GXE trim can be used for a flusher install) for double din head units.
Edit - another Bose thread, which might help your cutout problem without spending the money to replace hardware

basically...
i want to know if i can use the wires that go to the stock bose amp and connect them to the new amp while leaving the stock amp to power the stock speakers... or if i could just remove the stock amp and just use the new amp to power the sub and speakers using the wiring that is already in place.

I asked something similar to a Crutchfield audio tech. and got this in reply;
"Ryan, You can always add an amp and sub to a factory system by tapping into the left and right full-range speaker wires for input, using an amp with speaker-level inputs, or adding a line output converter. The factory subwoofer in your Infiniti's Bose system is self-powered, getting a line-level input from the amplifier, which runs the four door speakers. If you want to replace the factory sub, you'll need to add an amp to drive it."

Going to one of the links I posted (2nd post in this thread) would get you a better answer. There's people in there much more knowledgeable than me. You might wanna ask a member here by the name of djfrestyl , he knows his stuff, and is a very helpful member. Either private message him or leave him a message on his profile
On another note, djfrestyl also makes a replacement for the spare tire cover. Very reasonably priced, professionally made, and a huge improvement over the cheap, saggy OEM spare cover. I got one in my trunk :]
Good luck with your audio install!

On my 4th gen maxima, I mounted mine upside down on the deck between the 2 factory rear speaker locations. Others have mounted on the trunk lid, the side of the trunk and to the speaker box directly. I like being mounted on the deck so If I need to take the sub out, I only need to remove the speaker wires from the box and not mess with all the wires going to the amp. I can snap a pic if u need one.
Edit: give me a few minutes and when I leave work, I'll snap a pic and upload it for you. Don't make fun of my amp tho, its old but it works LOL

well, after a lot of reading i know i have a 5th gen bose system, so the sub is self amped, and the amp that i had thought was the sub amp, is the amp for the front and rear speakers. i don't have the money to change out everything and just gut the system, and i plan on trading this one in for something i can take offroading in a year or two once i can afford monthly payments, and i would like it to easily be returned to stock when that time comes, so i have no other choice than to keep the bose amp in there...
however, i am taking out the stock sub, so i guess maybe it could go there...
i heard that its bad to put the amp upside down or flat because it can overheat... its a class d, brutus hiphonics 1200 watt amp... will overheating be a problem if it is mounted upside down?
however, i am taking out the stock sub, so i guess maybe it could go there...
