Its definitely not something you see everyday. Running 11's and 12's in the 1/4 in this same type of car that normally runs high 14's to 15's is pretty unique as well and more then just a "little faster"
"it's what enthusiasts do",...What is that supposed to mean?
Anyone who likes and appreciates a certain thing is an enthusiast.
You dont have to install performance parts to be an automotive enthusiasts.
Also, FWIW the market for aftermarket parts for our cars is a bit limited. Some parts have to be modified and etc. to work with our applications. Those things take creativity and logic which therefore once again results in a more unique vehicle.
I will agree, that in the end it will always be a Maxima, and there will always be something faster out there. But that doesnt mean its not worth building it up to get the most out of it that you can. I for one love when I pull on a V8 sports car and have them come up to me later in amazement asking what all has been done to my car.
Well I thought my point was pretty clear. I think you're misinterpreting the "unique" comment and "what enthusiasts do" quote. Agreed, there's real enthusiasts who emphasize performance, but also in tune with everything else that makes up a nice or unique car. Which is why I said there's "nothing wrong with performance mods". Just as long as the rest of the car isn't neglected..

Making a car faster is the trend. Yes, some guys don't care about anything except making the car fast, that is the main problem I'm addressing.

How about the multicolored paint schemes that seamed to mainly end up on 80's era Camaros? Or the super-metalflake candy paint?

Rolls Royce kits on VW Beatles
Dune buggies built on VW chassis
4x4 truck chassis on cars
Ferrari body kits on Fieros
spinners
tunnel ram intakes

Your point is moot and off topic. making a car faster is not a fad or trend, Fads and trends come and go, faster has been around for 100 years. Making it LOOK faster is fad (RICE). Aesthetic appearances are all well and good, and is not a fad in itself. Furthermore there is nothing wrong with the clean look of a stock appearing fast car (sleeper). Both schools have been around for ever.

Hectic please move on because you dont have a valid point in regards to this thread.

Forgot a couple:
* Hoodpins on aftermarket hoods (used to see that all the time)
* Chrome or gold wheel fender trim
* SLOW TRAFFIC KEEP ---> backwards sticker on the windshield - People in front of you would see it normally looking in their rearview mirror

Fake hood pins.
Hood pins on stock hoods.
Rockin' black painted body panels instead of CF.

You're right, it is off topic, performance mods aren't a fad. They serve a purpose and people will continue to focus on making their car faster. But they are most definitely a trend, which is almost worse than many fads. Fads aren't necessarily bad things, they just go out of style. But there's zero individuality when it comes to trends.

I have many many valid points in regards to this thread

Hectic, I agree with you on this one. People have been modifying the "horseless carriage" since the dawn of the internal combustion engine to go faster. Modifying a car, boat, airplane, go-kart, motorcycle, 4-wheeler, snow mobile, and so on, isn't a fad or even a trend. It's a way of life. And it goes beyond just cars. Even steam locomotives back in the day were modified to go faster until a bigger and better model came around, and then that was modified for more speed.

I dont understand how you you say you agree with him when he says making a car faster is a trend, yet you claim its not a fad or trend but a lifestyle.

They were discontinued because of 3 reasons:

1: People would fail to put the lap belt on and end up under the dashboard.

2: If the door popped open during a crash, guess what? So are you.

3: This:

Gov't regulation on "safety" brought them, and they went away after a few years, along with the nationwide 55mph speed limit. Remember that? Every car built back then had 55 in red with speedo's only reading to 85 mph.

One of the low points of the 80's in the automotive world. Glad it passed.

I saw a car with a mustache the other day. It was like a giant Mario mustache zip tied to your grille. It gave me a good chuckle.

I think I would probably laugh until I cried like this if I ever saw someone had a car-stache with lashes.
