Well max ride, I'm not a know it all about cars but I have found that my fuel efficiency has increased probably 7 - 8% in the city and 10% out on the open roads when I went from 87 (called 91 Octane in New Zealand) to 93 (98 here) and that's worth the extra cents in my book.

Also, with most of our engines (esp. if you have variable intake) running low octane can damage (now correct me if I'm wrong, like I said I'm not 100% on this part) our Knock Sensors in our engine blocks (3 of them around the VQ30 I think) and if you run VI that can stuff it up so it doesn't activate on time or at all.

Performance? Don't think so mate.

Fuel Efficiency? (Which is more important today) DEFINITELY.

Gone from 400kms (250miles) - City Driving to 480kms (300miles)

Gone from 600kms (375miles) - Open Road Driving to 680kms (425miles)

Been using high octane 98 (Your 93) since November last year.

When I'm home it's Mobil 93 or Cumberland Farms 93.

When I'm out of town it's either Mobil, Shell, or Synoco. Best gas they got. I'm 18...have no money...but I love my car so I give it the best of everything (oil, gas, etc.)

I've been using 93 religiously for my '97 SE for about 5 years.

My friend who owns a '95 Max GXE has been using regular 87 for 3 years now - and he gets about 380 miles per tank. He replaced his knock sensor 3 years ago and hasn't had a single problem since.

I won't do that to my car though - maybe I'll try 89 octane.

^That's good advice. My dad only puts 87 in his '02 I35. I just got my Max last week, and put in 1/2 tank of 89. Doubt I'll move up to premium, and for now am testing out the 89 while driving around town (a very small town... only about 1-1.5 miles to class, daily). Engine is fine so far, but I doubt I'll drop to 87.

My dad's I35 gets good gas mileage... 25-26 or so. I don't know what my Max gets, but it's going to be terrible in my current city right now (my 4-cylinder Camry got maybe 19). I definitely wouldn't say my dad's I35 had less performance, either. And the "worse mileage, less performance" is very debatable, IMHO...

Time will tell. However my brothers I35 gets better cas mileage than that with mixed driving, and my max ran crappy with less than 91, so did his, now i only put 93 in with my TS ecu. But if it works for you, no need to change anything!

"premium" - 91+ grade here in Canada.....I tried regular (87 octane) once and noticed a significant difference between performance versus when i use premium..so premium it is....hurts my damn pocket....$1.08 + Per LITER !!!!! in Toronto where I live.

93 from BP. They sell Crystal Clear here in IL which I have noticed burns better than any other brand in terms of smoothness and responsiveness. My only issue is all gas in IL has ethanol or MTBE which results in somewhat poorer fuel economy.

I drove an Infiniti j30t for about 5 years, and it was mfg. recommended (Written on the dash) to run premium fuel, and you could notice a difference if you ran anything less.

Now in my 2k Maxima, it does not say anything about what kind of fuel to run, so I have been switching back and forth between 92, 89, & 87 to see if there are any noticable differences. Perfomance seems a little smoother with premium (could be placebo effect in my head) but It appears that my MPG is better with premium. Not huge, but about 290 miles per tank with 87 and around 320 per tank with 92. but have to average a few more tanks of each to get more statistically sound results.

My question now though is since I put an intake on, would that make my VQ that much more high performace that premium would be recommended???

I seriously doubt it. From what I know, the only time you really need higher-grade fuel is if you go from N/A to forced induction, then your engine actually needs the higher octane to keep from damaging the engine.

89 BP, only because it's the same price as all of the other gas stations around here. I used 91 the first year that I owned the car and when I switched, I didn't notice any difference.
Oh, gas stations do sometimes get higher octane deliveries, I don't know what it depends on, but I used to work at UPS, which has it's own fuel island, and once in a while we would get a higher octane than 87

The 2001 Pathfinder was the 1st Nissan to receive the VQ, how could the 2000 Maxima have the VQ, I thought it was the VG or are my engines and codes off

95-01 Nissan Maxima's - VQ30DE

Therefore:

VQ35DE Pathfinder + VQ30DE Maxima = 2 VQ's
