IMO it's as simple as they own a company that produces one of the worlds best V6s. They would be stupid not to attempt to make use of that resource in markets that would allow it.

True, this thread is kind of repetitive.

The VQ is one of best engines ever made - rather than one of the best 6-cylinders ever made. Long may it live - under any guise...except maybe Honda or Toyota or Subaru or...

LMAO!!!!! It would be the first hybrid car that would run off of cigarettes and wine. I think Nissan missed this great oppertunity to change the enviornment!

In 1999 I think, Renault plunked down 5-something billion to take a 44% interest in Nissan. I guess Nissan was going bankrupt, and Renault blamed management for that. When they put that much interest in Nissan, the two companies forged an alliance or partnership. It isn't so much that Renault owns Nissan, as it is that Renault saved Nissan from bankruptcy and Nissan took significant input from Renault regarding management. Nissan was also said to take like 15% stock in Renault. The known cars are still engineered by Nissan. And there has been a few blending of the two companies, a colaboration if you will, on some car designs. I think one car was a Renault minivan, and the other was a Nissan micro or something like that. I forget what I read now. But that colaboration doesn't extend to every Nissan or Renault car built.

Most car companies are either the owners or are majority owned by others... Renault makes some very nice cars... I drove one last fall, a small Renault Clio, 1.6L 85HP little car... Suprizingly enough, it goes... Cruises effortlessly at 90 mph no prob... Took it as fast as 110, did not dare going faster

That's pretty much right on the money. They really only swap ideas with the ultra-compact style cars that are only in the JDM/UKDM/EDM.

You mean like the french battle tank, 1 gear of forward and 15 gears in reverse. and FTW the tanks fly the french battle flag...the white flag.
