Damn Jason, so sorry to hear that. It truly was a work of art... whoever did it will get theirs eventually.

Good luck with the G and be sure to drop by every once in a while.

I don’t even know you. But every time someone questioned a maxima, i showed em pics your car. And showed em what could be done to a maxima. I am still in disbelief, I cannot believe this has happened. I am soo sorry for your loss.
sorry, just a quick question. Don’t answer it if you don’t want to, but how much do you think your car was actually worth. I cant put a price on it because it was so custom. I think the one on fast n furious was horrible compared to yours and that sold for 50k+...i think.

a tear came to my eye when i read your post. no joke

IMO you had the best 4th gen on this forum by far. i had it set as the backround on my laptop for about a year now and i never got sick of looking at it either.

i'm glad that you are taking it so well. if that was my car there is a strong possibility that the fucks that did that would be dead right now. what is the deal with those lazyass cops too? how is $20+ K worth of dammage not a 'serious incident'? that is such a load of BS!

good luck with getting your insurence to pay for the entire value of the car. i really hope they do! as you know they are going to try every trick in the book to get out of it though.

your car will be greatly missed here on the org

have fun with the G35

Speechless...

Jason,

I first read the subject of your post and thought to myself, "...oh, this is just Jason being Jason - with a slight flair for the melodramatic!" But as I actually READ the post, I honestly sat here (I'm at work right now) with a slack-jawed look on my face.

There are a plethora of emotions that are going thru my mind right now - shock, anger, and disbelief being the most prominent. And reading the numerous posts in this thread, I'm sure you see/read even more.

For me, this bit of news would be akin to hearing that your best friend's brother was shot or otherwise incapacitated. There's a certain sense of loss that accompanies it that cannot be put in words, no matter how eloquently spoken. While I've never seen your car in person, you and I HAVE talked a couple of times off-and-on via PM and email. So, like all my Maxima bretheren (and sister-en), I feel a certain bit of kinship with you.

You and your fantastic Maxima have touched practically everyone on the board in one way or another - either with advice, assistance, comments (good or bad), or with your complimentary flair for the melodramatic. Your car was one of the most perfect examples of Nissan quality paired with good old ingenuity I'll probably ever see.

I know I'm getting long-winded, but blame my head, not my heart, bro. And I'm sure this might even sound like an eulogy of sorts. And in some subtle way, it is! You represented not only the .org, but Maximas in general at every meet, every show you went to or entered. And while I certainly can't speak for any single person on the .org, I can only voice my own anger at hearing this travesty done to a really good guy and a great car.

Good luck with your future endeavors in getting the G35. I hope you swing by our way some times, because you STILL have the knowledge that went into creating your great car. And I'm sure all of us can benifit from this.

Woah... Very sorry to hear man. I've had my car broken into once (about $5k materials damage, not including the labor), and was ready to kill someone... The irreplaceable hours of work and originality are the part that REALLY hurts. the insurance never touches that, unless you can provide receipts of a shop doing the labor (who says it's not YOUR shop. )

first thing I would do is take all of the information and pictures you've got so far and forward it to your state's incurance commissioner. They can (and will) force the insurance company to pay for the damages.

I would give the insurance company a few weeks to "try" to work things out, but when you know they're trying to screw you over, send all of your correspondence to the commissioner, as well as the damages and such, and they'll step in and help out.

I would also hire a lawyer and let them know there's blood and fingerprints all over the car and that the police don't consider $30k in damages a worthy case.
whoever did that was someone that's done it before and knew your car (probably saw it at the show)-- so there are going to be many other cars from that weekend as well.

oh well.. hope some of that will help you get some of your blood and sweat back in the form of $ from the insurance company. Good luck man.

Again I post to give thanks for everyone's kind words and compliments.

I don't think that just because I won't have a maxima anymore that it will keep me away from this forum. Albeit, this forum has given me some headaches in my day and it has really made me angry at times (moreso a couple of people), but all in all my car would not be where it is today (better yet, where it was 3 weeks ago) without the org. I really hope that I never came off as a cocky person, because I am really not. And to hear people say that they showcased my car and talked about it whenever a maxima discussion came up is a shock to me. I guess I still look up to a lot of people on this board, whether they have more done or less you can always appreciate certain things.

I am not going to jump to any legal action or write any letters yet, but I will say that I have totaled up the "retail" value of my car and started organizing a lot of receipts. It is pretty mindblowing when I started crunching numbers to realize that I have put about $50,000.00 into a family sedan; a nissan family sedan at that. When it comes down to it, I have no intentions of being screwed over and not getting what I think is fair (which is not 50,000.00 trust me) but I will fight if it comes to it. Realistically, as my car sat, I think it was worth about $28,000.00-32,000.00. And with the damages being around that number it will be interesting to see what happens... I can get all the receipts I need to make this car worth what I think it is worth, and if it comes to that I will do it.

I will definitely be around, and definitely posting some smart a$$ comments here and there as usual, but just no more dreaded and annoying "picture posts." If I had the ability I would go back and put an image or two of my car from the show as a last rememberance in the first post of this thread, but with the new forum rules I can't. Oh well... just have to move on, it was only a car.

Thanks again, and thanks for the eulogy

jason

I don't understand why jealous people can't just buy thier own ****. It is ridiculous the amount of modified good looking cars that are being broken into these days. People need to start getting real jobs instead of stealing and cheating for a living.

Seeing these posts has sparked a few ideas about security into my head. I've had ideas such as putting some sort of shocking device on the inside of door handles, bullet proof windows, and small security cameras placed inside the car facing the outside, dash, and just other places to get peoples faces as something to use for the cops. The camera's should run off of a hidden power source and run at all times. Feel free to add or whatever to those ideas. I think it should be the first priority before you spend a single red cent on your car, if you know your going to be putting serious amounts of money in your car, get some set up to protect it.

there is that security system that calls your cell or pager when it goes off. i think thats a great idea.

i also really like those flame-throwers that go under the car that you use if someone tries to carjack your ride. i doubt they're legal in the USA but they do sell them in south africa

From the sound of Jasons' post, the camera wouldn't do any good either, since it's "just theft". Now, if Jason would have said he was car-jacked or hit over the head trying to scare them away, they'd probably actually investigate the crime.

I've had money stolen from my bank account before and the cops wouldn't do jack even when I tracked down grocery store survelance tapes of the guy and the bank ATM most likely had video too. Plus, another incident where a dying family members' care-giver forged signitures and stole 10's of thousands of dollars, but after she fled, we found her and called the cops and they did NOTHING.

Another sad story along Jasons' lines was the RX7 board story I read about, where the guy stole his car and the cops wouldn't lift a finger until the owner/members tracked the guy down to his parents place and took ACTUAL pictures.

Seems like cops got bigger crimes to investigate nowadays, because from my experiences and now Jasons', it sounds like theft alone isn't worth more then their 15-mins. to fill out a police report.

I'm a little late reading this post but...

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. I'd like to believe what goes around comes around so I hope those b@stards get what's coming to them. It seems that there always those people who love to take advantage of others; I hope they get caught and someone "takes a little advantage" of them in the clink.

Yeah, my friend told me about those flame throwers. I remember seeing a little piece on this show called The Screen Savers on TechTV. One of the workers (Yoshi, for anyone who watches the show) had a ton of security devices in his car. One that I particularly liked was his liscense plate, I forgot how it was activated, but when it was it flipped and had a flashing sign that said something to the tune of "Help! I'm stolen!". I'll see if I can find anything about it on their website.

Just heard from claims today and they are definitely saying the car is a total loss, mainly because the damage is worth more than the car to them. So now the fight begins. I am assembling pictures and receipts as we speak, if they are totalling the car and not offering a buy back stay tuned for some serious part lists.

Jason...

Sad to hear about your car.

But i definitely would sue the parking garage and the hotel for such a crappy job of doing security work even with the sign "PARK ON YOUR OWN RISK". This situation with your car is different. How can a bunch of thieves break in to your car and not once a security personnel saw them. With the amount of damage and items taken out of your car, it must have taken 2 to 4 people to ripped them out with a span of atleast 30 minutes. I smell an inside job....don't you think so. I work for a parking lot parttime and those sign are there just to protect management from any loss. But an incident like this would require a special exemption. The company i worked for got sued about foutr times last year and one got money for compensation due to negligence by the parking lot.

This is the same reason why me and my friends always try to park our cars at a friends house when we shipped our cars to the nieghboring islands. I never did trust the hotel parking lots.

You know, I have pics of your car saved somewhere. I swear, it could possibly have been the best 4th gen in terms of the amount of work and $$$ put in to it.

This was not random IMO, someone definitely had you on their radar.

Good luck with insurance, G35C is a sweet car too, but a completely different ride.

After reading this I dont feel so good. Made me almost puke. Im sorry for you and your car. You said your car was fine at the car show earlier that day. Yeah, someone had it out for you. I was going to say it was an inside job and be someone close to you, but you had everything open so they knew where stuff was like the battery just from the car show. Man, just reading this whole thread got me jittery, just to hear people would do that much to a car to vandalize it. I have USAA too. Good luck! Hopefully theyll cover your stuff or atleast some of it. They are hard to deal with at times.
