Maxima AWD???

My Friend was searching on the net and found an AWD kit for his Corrado. Has anyone ever a Maxima into an AWD?

No AWD kit exists for any year Maxima and it is highly doubtful one ever will be available.

next generation Maxima to be AWD? From what I've heard, it'll be built on the Altima's platform, which can support AWD.

Ask Andrew. He already did a TT 300z swap into his 3-gen and was working on and AWD system as we speak. This is what Q45 parts for 4!

No idea. It all comes down to marketing. Engineering has nothing to do with...sure an AWD Maxima is possible (and apparently easy if you are correct about the Altima platform supporting AWD), but is it a viable product? No idea.

Funny thing is...

(throwing a bone to this whole thread)

is that the Stanza wagons from the mid-80's used a version of the Maxima transmission (R5F50x) that were ALL WHEEL DRIVE. The transmission had a build in transfer case to send a driveshaft to the rear wheels. It's probably feasible to use the bellhousing from your 3/4/5th gen and mate it up to the Stanza AWD tranny - gutted and rebuilt with the presumably beefier Maxima internals - and *somehow* find a way to route a driveshaft to a whole new rear suspension assembly (with rear differential and all).

Here's a snip from car-part.com with an available Stanza AWD tranny:
1986 Nissan Stanza Van Transmission M.T-BLUE 5SPD 4X4 W/TCS $500.05 J0690 Brims Imports Auto 1-419-675-1099 E-mail USA-OH

Only $500 for the tranny. The real expense would be in modifying the rear of the car to accept power.

Check out this thread from a few days ago. It's my theory for an awd Max.

AWD would be tight

nissan could waist audi, volvo, and all its awd competitors w/ awd. thats whats holding there customers back in a way. everyone buys audis and passat 4motion... i dunno...

Resurrecting this 8 year old thread to ask again, does Nissan have any plans for AWD 6sp manual Maxima in the future?

i dont think JDM 3rd gens had AWD option. ive never heard of it and 3rd gens werent popular there because of their size especially because 3rd gens exceed Japans width limit

i know one guy on here paid a garage to RWD swap his 3rd gen, but he got flooded with questions on how it was done so he left i guess. i doubt Nissan will make Maximas AWD ever because you can get the G37 and G35 in AWD/RWD

That and Nissan can't figure out there is a enthusiast community that would whole-heartedly welcome a Manual trannied RWD/AWD Maxima.

Look at the bright side, at least our platform hasn't been orphaned, yet.

yeah i dont get why they cant make AWD or RWD a option at least. just like Lancers, you can get the FWD versions or the AWD Evo. but then again im not a manufacturer, but i dont think it would be extra work really

lots of manufacturers are stupid, everyones telling Mitsubishi that the Eclipse needs to go RWD to utilize more power but theyre not listening

I own a Altima SE-R, but if Nissan made the Maxima AWD or RWD I will be first in line to buy, I will just get over the CVT tranny thing...

Probably $10-20k with parts and labor. You would have to probably wait a few months and it would be difficult to find a shop willing to take on that kind of job.

That is pretty crazy build! He's definitely passed the $20k mark. Easily just on parts. Not including labor. All the rear ends he bought just "to see" if it fit. He went through Muranos and 350Zs just to see. Not to mention the G37 stuff he put in and bought a G37 Tranny with 11k miles on it. That was pretty crazy. Cant wait to hear about this car being finished.

An AWD Maxima should have already been on the Market...if Nissan was serious about the 4 door sports car slogan. Front wheel drive card are only good if you are driving in rainy conditions, family cars, MINIVANS etc. It was hard to get real world fun and response from a front wheel drive vehicle. (3.5 turbo charged rear wheel or AWD would surely sell to the public NISSAN) Then you can use the 4 door slogan again

not necessarily true. Some road racing cars are front wheel drive, Honda Civic, Acura Integra, Mazda3, Ford Focus RS, Nissan Sentra, Honda CRX, Chevy Cobalt, Scion TC. I think it comes down to suspension geometry.

Nope right now just a RB26 in a RWD converted 4th gen.

i doubt nissan will badge a AWD/RWD maxima. if they did, they would kill sales for infiniti...who would really buy a G35 AWD/RWD when you could buy a maxima AWD/RWD for $10k less, nissan aint dumb. as maximas become more powerful, they have to deal with more torque steer issues, hence the CVT trans. not sure if this trans has some kind of LSD, but if it doesnt, im sure they will add that, but no AWD/RWD from the factory

problem a) youre going to need alot of fabrication to fit a straight 6 engine into a bay built for a V6

problem b) you need to move ALOT around to RWD convert

problem c) even though the car will be RWD, you will still have horrible 3rd gen understeer. notice how RWD cars have a small nose infront of the front wheels, while FWD cars have a long nose

the only person to have a RWD Max with a straight 6 is Maxxkid with his RB26 4th gen that is RWD. one person paid a garage to RWD swap their 3rd gen, and Big E Dog i think is RWD converting a 2nd gen

really, unless you can help pay the bills for the swap by going to shows and such its not woth the $15,000-$30,000 to do all that work. you would be better off getting a 240z or something else with a straight 6 and RWD to do a RB25DET swap
