2001 AE rusted b pipe, need suggestions
The pipe above the rear axle, going into the muffler (B-pipe?) rusted through a couple years ago. I had an exhaust shop cut out the rust and weld in a piece of pipe (about 4 inches). It lasted a couple years before the welds on the replacement pipe rusted through.
The rest of the exhaust looks OK (resonator and AE muffler are good) except for that small section of pipe. I'd like to keep the car sounding quiet. My friend suggested purchasing the SRS cat back exhaust, but I'm sure that would be louder than stock. I thought about having the exhaust shop cut out the pipe again and weld another section in, but not sure that would last very long? Is there a better alternative?
I'd like to stay under $300 for the project, not including labor. At 140k miles I'm not looking to spend too much. I read the bosal is a quiet replacement option? Any other ideas?

Rustreformer. If you paint over rust, damage can still occur. Or just hit car-part.com and pickup a cheap replacement.
Looks as if that pipe is part of the muffler? Check below

Can anybody confirm if the Bosal muffler (axle back) will fit an anniversary edition? I pulled this up on rockauto:
BOSAL Part # 278025 Rear silencer One of our most popular parts
Exc. Anniversary Edition; Note: Muffler does not have OEM valve in tail pipe.
Do the pipes line up? Are the tips a problem?

If your muffler is still fine, keep it and replace the rest. I had a similar situation. I had my pipe replaced from the front of where the resonator starts back to the factory muffler, deleting the resonator in the process. It gives it a nice subtle tone without being aftermarket ricey loud.
