Been having a mysterious overheating issue as u guys know for about a month. New Radiator New Fans and New Thermostat and flush after flush antifrease after antifrease and post after post on the org and searching for hours not a single guy mentioned thermostat under IM!!! it would drive fine for 27 miles n if i went past 65mph after 27miles hwy it would climb n climb i slow down n it would drop temp rapitly. will drive all day in city softy but would mysteriously loose coolant level.


Pulled into Dealership today and their computer said she was @ 230F they inspected everything n said for me to leave it with them but i couldn't. i mentioned to a tech over 18years the thermostat under intake manifold he said he's never had to replace a single one and doubted it. Since the consult II was connected he bumped my timing up 2 degrees now I'm at 17 degrease runs little more responsive now.


anyways i took it upon myself remove n drop in boiling water on stove and that sucker NEVER opened after 10mins of boiling notthin. guys claimed 240k miles n never changed it I'm at 212k n its deffently bad and stoping coolant flow to heads!!!


I just made this thread for next guy in same boat as me can search and find this and hopefully helps him out cause nobody seemed to point our this being a cause. ill take pics of location in daylight tommorow n post.

Their you Go Dennis! Thanks alls you need is a 12mm socket and 3inch extension i used 3/8ths drive. pull right up little tug and thermostat slides out no need to remove heater lookin hose connected its a pain.

While the thermostat costs more at the dealership than some on-line place, that is still a bargain to fix a problem like you had.

Your engine doesn't have one. That extra thermostat was an experiment only done to the 2000 and 2001.

You described this issue really well that I solved my overheating problem.

My issue was engine overheating on idle, overheating driving 10mph, with sufficient air flow with velocity increase the temperature gauge would drop instantly.

Replacing the second thermalsat under the intake manifold (on the right) solved this issue, although I found it easier to access taking out the mass air flow filter.

If you had this problem for a while, check the following:
Radiator
Radiator fans
Transmission fluid
Oil
Thermalstat 1 (left side)complete housing.
If all these are working properly then this fix is for you.

If this fix does not work then move on to the coolant temperature sensor,it can trigger the computer to think it is too hot.
