Rear spoiler brake light question

Hello everyone,

I have a 2000 SE which has the rear spoiler. Lately i've been paying more attention to other 00-03 Maxima's that I see while driving in traffic. One thing i've noticed is that the cars equipped with the rear spoiler don't have a very bright 3rd brake light, and during daylight hours, it appears even less bright.

So my question is... Is there a way to modify the spoiler's 3rd brake light with brighter bulbs, or is the brake light not serviceable? (meaning not able to take apart to replace bulbs)

If the 3rd brake light does come apart, has anyone done this mod and replaced the stock bulbs with brighter ones?

The spoiler light actually does not have regular bulbs in it but has led's in it. Taking it apart is tricky since it is one piece. You have to cut it in half to be able to reach the led's.

Sounds like quite a bit of work. Maybe this weekend I'll remove the light from the spoiler and take a look at it out of curiosity.

People have taken them apart on the 4th gen and replaced the leds and other parts when they burn out.

Funny this should come up............. I had a BAD experience with taking mine apart. I wound up braking everything, the leds, the circuit board and the housing. With the age they become very brittle and with my lack of patience and knowledge I ruined it. I did get it "back together" with a strip of red leds from pepboys for like 20 bucks, and it looked just OK- but I couldn't live with the crack and wound up buying a new one from a member who had an extra laying around. My advice would be to be very patient, and make sure you know exactly what you're going to do.

Man just RIP it apart and swap the LED's out the OE leds are crap output wise.dont forget to take pic's of the damn thing and add it to the Tuner Poll thread.

you can burn it but you can try

Mine broke after many years of service (max 95) so I took it apart to find out what was wrong. some electronic component in the board burned out. I don't know what it was so i put a resistor in there to lower the voltage a bit. It worked but the LED's where not bright at all because the power supplied to them was low. so I assume that if you up the power you will get a brighter light.
So buy a rely at radio sack and connect to an amplifier to it, when you press the brake it will activate the relay and the relay will supply electricity to the amp. or just plug the amp one it's own before your light brake etc. Maybe you will brake it. lol so be ready with the auto zone led/s and more work. LET US KNOW

Or you can just be happy with what you have =)
