Love Taxis! (with pics)

So I figure I can be pretty safe parallel parking outside my apartment aside from the occasional bump on the bumper... but what a sweet thing to come home to on Tuesday night. Thanks Boston cabs.

(Hit both me and the Range Rover behind me. Note: We did not park on the curb...)

I'd love to know what the estimate turns out to be. I'd bet 20:1 odds that this is a total loss. Could be $7-9000 worth of damage there...

Thanks guys... Cops had left a note with contact info that a cab had hit it and I still have not gotten the full details yet. Hopefully an appraisal today, but agreed that chances are it will be totaled. The passenger side even needs work from the curb damage.

The thing is/was in perfect shape, 94k miles. Shame.

I am already out of pocket for getting it towed yesterday morning (the impact slid it 5+ feet in front of a hydrant). Better get value+, but I doubt it.

If only you could equally damage something that hit-n-run ahole values, and maybe he'd feel the shame he should be feeling.

I'm sorry for you, OP. And I hope that somehow you come out the other end of this situation in a better place. You have my sympathies.

Sounds like it wasn't a hit and run but without you being in the parked car, getting a hold of the person at the time of the accident can be difficult. GL

Thanks for the comments guys. Situation is truly a pain, but what can ya do. At least I wasn't in it or getting something out of my trunk. Could always be worse.

It was not a hit and run fortunately. With the damage to both my car and the one behind me, I doubt the cab could have driven off. There were hunks of metal stuck in my rear fender. Still want to know how in the world it happened.

I have gotten in touch with my insurance, the State Police (not the trooper on scene, he is out until tomorrow), and the cab company supervisor who has to be the biggest jerk I have ever spoken to. I anticipate an offer well below the actual value.

Rochester - not a bad idea... haha. That might ruin the good Karma you speak of though. Thanks for the thoughts.

I will keep you guys updated as this unfolds...

Sorry for suggesting an eye-4-eye response. That was dumb. It's so easy for any one of us to feel that helpless situation, is all.

You know, personal responsibility can weigh on you if you don't own it. Once, when I was young, the wind whipped the door out of my hands, and I accidentally dented this brand new car we were parked next to. But I never said anything. It's 25 years later, and I still feel like crap about that.

Anyway, it sounds like you got your head in the right place. Things are going to work out just fine for you somehow.

That is rough, but seems a little sketchy. Your car had that kind of damage and the responding officer only left a note with his number on it? He didn't even attempt to get your info and give you a call or anything? That's weird. I hope for your sake the cab driver/company doesn't have some kind of in with the cop. Best of luck getting full compensation for the damages. This cab driver must have been an idiot or drunk because that's no minor sideswipe, it almost looks like he was trying to pull some Tokyo Drift moves down the street and it went bad or something.

Thanks again for all the comments guys - makes a difference. Enjoyed some of those stories as well.

Anyway, got the final results this afternoon. Car is obviously totaled. It was hit so hard (at least 30-40mph) that the entire suspension was bent and the frame. Total loss. They stopped tallying damages at ~$6k. I still do not understand how the cab pulled this one off.

The good news: Since the car was in such good shape, low mileage, they took the NADA re-sale, added a premium for the aforementioned conditions, added MA taxes, and my payout is over $8k. I am taking it...

Looks like the good vibes came around for me.

Thanks again for all the support.
