InCabin Airfilter Question

I had my car checked out at nissan today, belts changed etc. When i went to pick up the car the service manager recommended that i change the incabin airfilter considering i have 47k on my car. I know there used to be posts about this, but i never caught if doing it was necessary... BTW he said it would cost $96, i looked but couldnt find a cheaper price.

thanks

Your 2000 Max does NOT have an in cabin microfilter installed unless you asked for this option when you purchased your Max. The microfilter is only standard on the 2k2/2k3 Maximas.

...I purchased the car used so i dont know whether or not the person who owned it previously chose that option. So i have no filter at all in my cabin? So really i didnt need to change anything rather he was tryin to sell me another option?

Yeap. Look in the manual. My 2k1 has one. It's an easy job. Do it yourself at home. Filter should cost no more than $50

He's charging you the price of two kits. The charcoal impregnated filter kit cost me 48.95 at my local dealer. The Nissan part number is B7200-3Y000. It comes in two pieces that mount vertically in the filter slot. He must be charging you labor to install it if he told you $96. You can do it yourself if you want the filter. The filter that came with my car is washable and the replacement filter is not. I still have the original one in for now. It's not a necessity but it does stop dirt and debris from coming out of your ventilation system.

There should be a sticker in the glove box stating if you have a filter installed. A new sticker comes with a filter kit.

I don't know if it actually standard but mine came with it, I went to look at my window sticker to my car I kept and it's listed there as option costing me $59 bucks. I'm not certain if that's just the filter or that's integral part of the climate system.

Brandon, I think the service manager is giving you bull story. You should be able to do it yourself for 50 bucks to change it yourself. If you're handy to remove the glove box compartment.

agreed. you DO NOT have to have it! personal preference. helps keep debris and odors out a bit.

if you have a 2k you likely DO NOT have it - it was an option. you can look for the sticker of follow the install instructions below to see for yourself.

$98 is a rip off. buy it for $45 and install yourself. very easy.

can buy from Courtesy Nissan for $45.

I'll tell you how you can tell if you have an in-cabin filter, if you got a dusty/dirty dash you ain't got one, if it stays relatively clean you got one.
My filter was pretty dirty @ 15k miles.

You should be able to replace it yourself in 15-20 minutes tops. The dealer was trying to rip you off. I replaced mine this month after passing 41K miles. My car was getting a gross smell from the vents when the heat was on. When I took the old filters out, they were covered in dust, fibers and some leaf fragments.

The stock filter washable. The replacement filter is charcoal impregnated and not washable.

My stock filter on my 02 was paper and is probably washable. However, I don't believe for a minute that the paper filter is as good as a charcoal filter. I opted to replace mine with the charcoal. I don't believe you can wash the charcoal filters.

I did mine a few months ago and it was my first time. I took about an hour as it was dark, just an hour before midnight.

The charcoal filter gives advantage of blocking outside odors, but is not washable I don't think.
