Help with seat frustation!!
I don't know if anyone has any bright ideas on how to handle this very distressing situtation. My mom bought an '03 SE with cloth seats. She is very sensitive (to everything) and is complaining about the driver seat. She's 5 feet 4 1/2 inches tall with wide hips. She is used to a 92 toyota camry. She is complaining about everything in the max. The way the seatbelt cuts into her shoulder, the way the connector for the seatbelt pushed into her hip, how far back the seatbelt and B-pillar are for her to reach, the way the seat even at minimum bucket is still a bucket (as if the camry wasn't??), and even the way the headrest sticks out.
We "solved" the headrest problem by turning it around (unsafe imho). The seatbelt connector was pushed far enough down that it no longer interferes too much. The seatbelt cutting into the shoulder can probably be delt with by adding a shoulder pad.
She sits *very* far forward and suggesting that she sit further back and use the tips of her feet to push the pedals instead of her entire foot are met with responses like "I dont do it that way." Therefore, reaching the belt becomes a problem, and the cutting into the shoulder is intensified.
She wants to feel that the seat is completely flat, or that maybe the back is even higher than the front. This makes zero sense to me, but she has to be comfortable if she is going to drive the car and not be in pain or constantly complaining. We have though of putting washers on the rear bolts that hold the assembly to the floor to raise it up. We have even considered some apolstery work.
This is hell.
What are the alternative choices for seats? Are the non-SE seats less bolstered? Will seats from a "less sporty" nissan fit the '03? Will any aftermarket seats solve some of these problems?
Any input is welcomed.
