Installing UDP - How is it different installing it on an Auto vs. a 6-speed?

I was going to go by the info on Studman's website, but just was told that it is different installing the UDP on an auto vs. a 6 speed... how so? what is different that I have to watch out for? i'm assuming the tranny is shaped differently?? makes removing the bolts different, anything else? I'm plannin to install this in about an hour....

What you have to watch out for is when you torque the nut on the crankshaft to complete the UDP installation. On a manual transmission car, you can put the car in gear and have a friend step on the brake pedal to prevent the crankshaft from rotating. On a car with automatic transmission, you can't just press the brake pedal. You need to keep the flywheel from turning, because the torque converter is not a solid joint and it will rotate when you try to torque the nut. I was able to install my UDP by removing the flywheel access panel and putting a socket over one of the flywheel bolts to prevent it from rotating. You can find the access panel on the driver side of the engine, and I think it is held on by one bolt. Turn the crankshaft using a wrench until you see a bolthead appear in the access opening, and fit a socket over it so the bolt cannot rotate past the opening. It's tricky to keep the socket on, but it worked for me.

"i keep hearing the UDP = 0 HP. "

You don't gain HP, the lightweight pully free's up HP in the engine. You use less HP to rotate the lighter pully which equates to more HP to use on the road. Seems kind of backwards but that's how it works.

it seems that the overall concensus from people who do this mod is that they feel some gains in the 0-60 acceleration. once i get my new tension bolt this afternoon... well another 5 minutes of work on the car and it should be good to go! see if i can tell a difference. i figure its worth it, seeing as me and my buddy installed it... grand total of around $200 isnt too bad for a mod in my eyes. i know it wont make me lose and hp, so there we go. its definatly going to make at least some difference now 5 o'clock needs to come so i can leave work and finsih up my project!

well, ask SR20DEN. He dyno'd before and after on his 02 and got zero HP. The UDP webpage says like 10 HP on a dyno, so i am

I don't think so, I hear what you are saying. It took me a while to understand it also. If you have 200 HP with the stock pulley that uses up 10 horses to drive you still have the same 200 HP, its that 10 HP goes to drive the pulley. With the lightweight pulley you still have 200 HP, now mabye 1 or 2 HP goes to drive the pulley you still have 200 HP. From my reading up on the subject that's my understanding.

This is the "simple" explanation i got.....the udp helps get the engine going but after that its dead weight.....lighter pulley = faster car....no horsepower add however....does this sound right?

ya i was trying to think of how to explain it, and that sounds about good. just cruising, there is no benefits, since the pulley is rotating at the same speed... but under acceleration, there is less mass to rotate, therefore it is able to spin up faster. i would think that the most noticable gains are in 1st
