1996 Maxima GXE Automatic - Key stuck in ignition
Read relevant threads, Can't seem to get an answer.
Key is stuck in ignition.
Car starts and runs fine.
When I put it in PARK, the key will NOT come out.
It seems to stop a little bit short of the last click.
Tried moving shifter all the way back and forth and up againast the PARK stop.
No luck.
Is there a switch of some kind in th eshidter that feeds into the ignition switch?
Couls that switch be bad?
Is it called the PARK POSITION SWITCH?
Internet says it is discontinued :-(
Could it be something else?
Help!

Tried slamming shifter back and forth. No luck.
Also noticed that Remote is not working.
This may mean that the car thinks it is NOT in PARK.
Although it starts just fine which is weird.
Do I need to dismantle the entire console to find th ecable that activates the key release?
Is there a PARK POSITION SWITCH in the 1996 automatic?
Could this be the Neutral Safety Switch or does that have different symptoms?
Thanks again!
