Wired up: auto climate control, heated seats & mirrors, I30 dimming mirror.

After years of telling myself it wasn't worth adding them I said F it and did it anyway.

ACC:
I stole all the wires I needed out of the old harness and kept what was needed intact. I left the pins on so I could plug them into the fuse box. I spliced and soldered a bunch right at the manual harness as well. There are a few parts to add to the evaporator box, 2 motors to swap, and a few sensors.

Heated seats:
Again, pulled the wires from the old harness. Once it's whittled down there's just switched power and ground. I swapped the center console just for the switch cutouts.

Door mirrors:
Donor mirrors were black so I pulled the glass and swapped the painted part. A few of the mounting bolts snapped. One was so messed up I had to take two mirrors to make one. The wiring was simple. Splice the ground in the door. The power had to be fished through the door harness to the connector. Then a relay needs to be plugged in at the right side kick panel. The rest is pre wired to the rear defrost circuit.

Review mirror:
I have had the mirror forever and didn't have the plug. Luckily I found what I needed from another harness I have (2000 Max). It's 4 wires, ground, parking lights, and illumination (spliced in at the dimmer) and switched power.

I'll add some pictures in a bit.

ACC wires taped.

Soldering.

Testing the wiring.

Parts and pieces.

Not much to see.

Yup, it's a mirror.

Putting it together.

Power and heat.

I'm impressed with how much effort you were willing to do .

I didn't know one would have to dismantle half of the interior to accomplish what you did.

You could do it without removing the dash. Taking the dash out gives far better access to everything. The air mix motor is the hardest part, it's right above the ECU.

If you can do those then you can do this. You may be the only one to weld in a patch. I have seen lightweight replacements for the hole.
Why do you want to remove the ABS?

I just saw your build thread. Now I understand. Having a 95 would be great since my state wouldn't check emissions.

Yeah early produced 95 ftw. Any 4th gen is good, except!! cali spec 99 that **** no good man no good lol. I do miss cold weather package on the max. I swapped out my leather seats from automatic to manual or to lever keeping the leather on driver and passenger sides no more electrical seats. seats now weight next to nothing extremely light. There heated cushions too. Did you have to tap a 12v source? After switching the harnesses over, thats interesting. Wiring is my weak point..lol i get lost quick.

I ran a wire directly to the fuse box. You could splice into quite a few other sources a bit easier.

Cali 99 isn't all bad. I used to feed the hate. Got one now, not a big deal. They're are things I like about it.

The 99 fed spec is good, if it doesnt have abs, sunroof is ehh, but with all the extras the 99 se-l has, especially in the engine no good. Changing out the knock sensor is a real treat in that one lol. Just more things to go bad. And more things in the way. Im happy with 95 fed spec. Theres just alot less sensors and basically no emission components. Besides your basic egr stuff, but im kinda tempted to delete that too haha.

I know what you're getting at. The 95 does have some cool difference on the emissions. The rest does not appeal to me. Especially the terrible crash tests.

My swirl valves are already gone. I actually like the electric EGR and stream lined EVAP on the CALI.

Yeah, only weak points in those crash test were front and rear bumper supports and the seat rails on driver and passenger side. But that all can be swappped out to the later years. I switched my 95 seats over to 98 seat rails for that reason. I basically like the concept of delete it, get rid of it, dont need it lol. Ive personally felt what its like to get hit around 60mph in my 96 and i can say any year these 4th gens are mini tanks. Not saying you dont know this but, The fact that nobody drives, likes, or thinks the 95-96 are good and there just plain ugly clearly dont know the sauce. Lol

I think I'm allowed to call them ugly, at least in stock form. 96 SE, my dad bought in 99. I got my drivers license with it. 20 years later, still wrenching on them.

Hey,

My climate control, hazard, and rear defrost backlights don't work. I replaced the INT ILL fuse, the 3 bulbs behind the climate control unit, and also picked up a different climate control from the JY but nothing helped. I've researched this site and could not find a tip that can fix my issue. I checked the housing on the AC connector for cracks (no cracks) and for voltage. All connections have voltage except for the yellow/red wire, does anyone know if that's the wire that powers the backlights of the climate control unit? I was trying to figure out where that yellow/red wire goes but difficult without removing the dash.

Thanks and stay safe.

I30 dimming mirror.

looking good Sutter. I thought there was a plug somewhere in the car for that mirror but I never tried. I’ve done so much useless mods on my car that was a waste of time and Like you, I thought it was too much work and never bothered with this upgrade.. I actually had about 3, I30 mirrors at one point and threw them all away when cleaning out my garage.. there were some bulb lights there were not working in the ones I had and decided it wasn’t worth the effort and ditched it all together. Nice work on yours my friend.

How do you like the dimming mirror? I can't stand the one in my wife's 2007 FX35, I turn it off every time I get in the car. But I'm still tempted to install one in my car to see if I like it. And were the heated mirrors worth it?

The I30 mirror jiggles a bit otherwise it's fine. All my cars have them and they usually work as intended. I slightly prefer leaving a manual mirror on the night setting.

The heated mirrors were great on my 98 when I had to drive in the winter. I hope to never have to drive this car in the winter. I put them on my truck too. They are just as handy as the rear defrost.

I was asked how I wired the mirror. This diagram is from the I30. My chicken scratch is the colors of wires for the harness I made.

I connected 3 of the wires at the dimmer switch

Ground black (B)
Illumination(dimmer) red/yellow (R/Y)
Parking lights blue/yellow (L/Y)

The last wire is switched ignition power. I went to the fuse box and added 6J like a psycho. Better off using 8J, green wire, which is already there to power the gauge cluster, or get to it at pin 37 behind the cluster.

I love seeing people doing mods like this. It shows passion. I've done projects like these over the years. Currently have a base model Soul that has gotten the auto dimming/compass mirror treatment. Mirror was from an '07 Murano, of all vehicles.

Great write up by JSutter, I want to add a pic of the connector location. Both connectors are white and located at the bottom of the driver and passenger side kick panel.
