Has anyone in the history of the 4th GEN
ever replaced their exhaust at the dealer, with OEM?
Just curious, because my original exhaust failed when the car was almost 12 years old.
I took it to a "chain" store and had everything from the CAT back replaced, and the resonator failed in only 3 yrs., and the muffler falied in 4 1/2 yrs. The resonator and muffler were Walker lifetime parts (Walker has at least two lines so this was the better).
Just curious if a dealer uses OEM, or do they have a "cheap" replacement that would also fail in 3-4 yrs., unlike the original?
It all comes down to labor rates imho why anybody would avoid the dealer, because chain stores do charge list on the parts that equal Nissan's list.
I happened to opt for the lifetime so they just did it for $74 labor (rip-off I know)....
Just curious!

imho if exhaust doesn't have any hp/tq gains, I don't like it. I know what loud exhaust sounds like, and if it's just sound, the car is the exactly the same car so why do it....

I've had great success with Warpspeed y-pipe and hi flo cat, and walker products from the cat back. Cheaper cat backs from Bosal and other generics only last about 2-3 years or so. I'm in philly so winters are kind of brutal on exhaust systems...

Just installed a new OEM exhaust on mine from y-pipe back to muffler. Only main cat is not OEM but everything else is. Sprayed it down with rustoleum rust reformer spray a few coats and high temp exhaust paint.

of course i just replaced the y-pipe and the friggin cattback has now rusted through in a couple spots. i have a monza or pacesetter cattback and it lasted over 7 years and had a real nice tone. i'm going to buy another pacesetter muffler and i allready have a new resonator so i'll just get an aftermarket b-pipe maybe. i liked the black coating on the monza one tho, stayed rust free most of its life.

Well I just had an aftermarket system that barely lasted 3 years so I just bought and assembled an entire OEM setup except for main cat. Used a walker main cat and painted high temp flat black paint.

i've still got to put my pacesetter cattback on, it's been sitting partly inside and partly outside in the max. just been tied up with other $hit lately. painted the muffler flat black as well, did you use intake paint?

Don't forget the chrome finisher on the end for that "touch of class" lol.

Yes. I tried to get the one from an 08 Muffler but dealer said its not separate anymore. Got the OEM 95 chrome tip and added it on. Definitely quieter than some new cars....incredible.

I replaced my original muffler with an OEM muffler on August 13, 2006 at 103,890 kilometres. That seems like low mileage to me, but the muffler was coming up to 12 years old and might have suffered from moisture buildup from lack of use. I am not into noise, other than my Budget y-pipe & K&N panel filter, and decided to stay with the OEM muffler bought at the stealership.

I think mine is too. Every now and then I'll pull some jagged pieces of rust from the pipe (I live near the mountain). But I don't think muffler has ever been changed. Car is still quiet though.
Is there any maintenance schedule for changing a muffler? If mine has never been changed, it's got 250,000 miles on it. Or at the very least, 130,000.
