WTF did I do *_*?

So..

- Parked the car in revere
- Turned car off with steering wheel somewhat to the right
- Key won't come out
- I can start and turn off the car, radio works etc but the key won't come out

I'm scared to play with the key too much because if it breaks then I'm in even bigger sh*t

Did I activate a security feature?

Please advise.

Start the car, straighten the wheel, and put in park. The key wont go to "lock" in anything but park. This is a safety feature thas been mandated and in use since the '80s

I tried taking it around the block and turned it off with the steering wheel facing straight but still it is stuck.

Try giving it a violent jiggle back and forth. I've had this happen to friends of mine numerous Amounts of times.

Why in the world would you have to d/c the battery if your key goes to lock? Well maybe you broke something in the lock cylinder or something got stuck. Wiggle the key and see if it'll come out.

For now, pull the fuel pump and starter fuses and lock your car with another key so nobody steals your broken car.

It only wants to move between lock and start. Can't move it to lock -_-"

It is the gear box. Drove around the block and aggressively moved the car into park and the key came out

Correction, it is the interlock mechanism in the shifter/lock cylinder. Do not shut off in gear/neutral, only in park.

The old school like the 3rd gens have the push button on the ignition to release the key which I guess wasn't a bad thing. Maybe your car wanted you to leave the key for easy access to share with the neighborhood as a grocery getter
