Friend has a used engine would it fit?

I have a 96 I30 and would like to know if his engine would fit if I did a swap. It is a 1996 Mercedes-Benz S600 (Sedan) W140-coded chassis.

If its bolted to a manual trans and you swap a ford 8.8 rear axle in, sure why not.
RWD V12 Maxima FTW!

My old boss once told me. "Anything can fit anything with a welder and a cutting torch" so yes you can make it fit. If it will be drivable or still look like a max after the fact is the question

If you do it, that would be the most awesome Maxima around.

Good luck with the build!

Thanks for the optimism better than the negativity I'm getting from other folks. Hopefully it will still have the look.

my buddy bought a 4th gen with a blown engine and trans for $500. we bought a RB26 with 6spd trans for $2500. all we did was drill a hole in the fuel tank for the driveshaft, put in a 240sx rear subframe, and the rest was completely bolt on. started Saturday morning and by the evening it was done and running 9 second quarter miles

to be serious, converting FWD to RWD is a nightmare. you have to move the exhaust and fuel tank for the driveshaft, probably move the firewall, etc. just buy a RWD car if thats what you want

I dont think anyone means to be mean, its just that sometimes just because something is possible doesnt mean it is also feasible.

If you go into the all motor subforum theres a looong thread where the OP is swapping in a skyline motor by himself - if youre truly serious about this perhaps that would be a good place to start and get an idea what youre up against. Its telling that the thread was started years and years ago and the swap still isnt done.

In a nutshell its like asking if you can make a tank fly - sure, you COULD, but the time, money, and effort required would be insane.

Not that im qualified but if your goal is a maxima with an absurdly large and beast engine, perhaps taking another car and fabricating a body kit would be easier/ less costly?

exactly. probably 500 have wanted to convert a Maxima to RWD, only one actually completed a fully functioning FWD to RWD conversion and that was E-Dog with his 2nd gen

welp i hope you can weld, fabricate, and machine. you have to move the firewall back and make a transmission tunnel as well as fabricate a S13 rear subframe or something to work for the rear end. have fun

Here's a better idea. Build a tube chassis, throw that money pit of a motor in it, and then take the body of the car and just slap it on top of the tube chassis. Boom, there you go.

For real though. Read up on "back halfing" a car. A solid rear axle swap would be easy for a guy with a welder. Engine management would be the hardest part.

RWD conversions are only as difficult as you want them to be. Stay away from IRS and it will be doable and feasable even.

but for as far as you would be moneywise on a 4th gen RWD swap, i could buy a Cressida on Craigslist for $1000, swap in a 7MGTE, 5spd swap it, throw in a LSD, and end up spending less plus have a faster car

you could probably find a good maxima engine for under $500, wouldn't that be easier?

Just like mentioned above, it is possible to do the swap. Is it feasible? No. If you want RWD Mercedes with V12, just get one.

The crack dealer and hooker pimp that lives in the apartment building next to me has an S600 that looks like it has seen better days. if you want, i'll ask him how many b.j.'s he wants for the car.

Yeah, there's a few here that care about their 4th gens. Many I see driving around town are pretty ragged out and probably aren't even worth parting out.
