newbie, but wanna hear everyones opinion?

I know everyone has heard of the car for sale that a little old lady drove just to church? i think i may have found her, i bought a 98 gle, not sur actual color but its grey..anyway it only has 101,000 miles on it, and the couple i bought it from maintained this car beter than i could have hoped! oil every 3k, 3 tranny flushes(full) and to my disbelief even the radiator support was done(and what a nice job) and even more belief the bose still works! but the people were in there 80s and said they never put a tape or cd i it i definately believe them! they are the only owners of the car and the tires on it are the ones that replaced the originals (i figure ill get about 15 k more) anyway, i was hoping to get some feed back on what i paid for it....$3000.00....did i do ok? and also what would you guys do, as far as maintainance goes even tho it really has been meticulously maintained before i go it?
thanks ahead of time for feed back!!!

Most people recommend only draining and replacing the tranny fluid. Not completely flushing it. TBH, I've never touched my tranny fluid. My car has 254k on it, and I doubt the previous owner ever replaced the fluid.

I'm at 185k myself and the transmission fluid hasn't been touched, I heard it isn't good for it and can damage the transmission, but good find for sure I hope you don't run into any problems with the transmission!

For that low miles and if it is a Mint condition GLE, and leather is in good shape I say Very Good Find especially with all the records for the car...

3 grand is a great price - good job!

And re: transmission - many people use the term "flush" interchangeably with a drain and fill.

Great find on the car, but I'm curious about your Bose statement. Why the surprise? I bought my car with 145k miles on it, the bose was fine. I replaced and sold the HU because I wanted iPod connectivity. The original Bose speakers and amps are still in my car which now at 189K and they still rock, so

ya i guess no pics was dumb.

but i will post some soon, thanks for input !!!!also i guess i shouldnt have put 3 "full" tranny flushes i didnt read the reciepts to closely before i chucked em , i went through them quick and only saved the most important ones, may have been just drain and fills, but i did see tranny filters on the recipts , i wanna call and ask a few questions i thought of, but the old man was quite confused (alzheimers i think)and the lady new nothing bout technical stuff and was now unable to drive anymore so thats why they sold the car to me..some of the receipts were for stuff like an altinator put in 2 yrs ago and a/c services , so money was no problem for these people (as the mansion they lived in made me think) buy the way all, i respect all your thoughts, im 40 yrs old and dont plan on moding up my ride, but it sure is good knowing alot of you guys have been ther done that with the 4th gens...ive allways liked them since riding in one 10 yrs ago and loved it!!!thanks guys!

Its not good to change tranny fluid on an old car if its never been changed before. But, if the fluid has been changed like it should then its not a problem.

Don't wanna hijack his thread, so that's the basics.

Car looks very well kept. Clean that leather with mild soap and water and treat it liberally with conditioner. It will soften up nicely and look even better.

Good find, good luck with the car.

EDIT: Just hit 15K posts I must be getting old...

Nah bose usually works fine. My 97's bose worked perfectly and it had 185k on the clock.

Just last night i replaced the bose on my 99. Worked perfectly just got a good deal on a JVC HU. Usually the speakers crap out or the buttons fall out. Other than that they still soldier on

would you wanna get rid of it? it would be nice to have a back up or spare parts?
btw what did u have to do to be able to just throw another hu in? i hear its a little more to it, like having to get some kind adapter so the bose speakers sound good with a dif hu?

Definitely a great find. Must have been garage kept due to that interior being prestine...even the wood grain has no wear on it.

Well I got it off a member who was getting rid of his ride so It was pretty much plug and play. All u need is a antenna adaptor and harness adaptors for it to be plug and play.

The new HU has a lot of features that my Bose didn't have ( usbs, bluetooth, etc) and I was a steal price.

EDIT: I thought you were asking me why I would want to get rid of it. Well I don't have the HU anymore I traded with the guy who sold me his HU. If yours goes, just swap it with something better

your basically an idiot, what makes you think not changing old fluid is "good" for the trans? i did a drain and fill about 17 months ago, and the fluid had about 65,000 miles on it. viscosity breaks down and your gears, clutch plates, etc., are at risk of overheating because the fluid no longer has any protective qualitys left. every 60,000 do a drain and fill, not a flush.

^all of the above. def. a good buy! change the trans fluid when it's no longer bright red/pink (but do keep checking on it ever 60k or so).
check your suspension: struts and the front end especially.
