how to know if transmissions in the junkyard is any good?

went to the shop today, and told that my transmission has problems
i can only go up to 40 kms/hr and i cannot go further.

any good tips on how to check for transmissions in the junkyard?
seen a couple of 5th gen maximas, vq35de engines, will it fit into my vq30de?

FYI - LKQ parts usually come with a 30 day (or more) warranty.

Yeah that don't sound like a transmission issue man. Do you have any service engine lights? Plug in a code reader before you go invest in a tranny and waste your money. That ish will hurt. But my guess is the same as the last poster, MAF sensor is defective and your car is in safe mode preventing it from doing any further damage

mass air flow sensor, its that round thingy behind your airbox and if its dirty the cars runs bad. ( technical terms, thingy and bad ) you have to spray some cleaner in there to open it back uo and get it running smoothly again. crc makes maf spray, use that. there's a write-up on how to do it in here somewhere, search is your friend. chrome, u suck. beat me to it.

I've Had Good luck with JY Trannys....Got mine in my car now 5 months ago out a Smashed 97 with 85k miles its beautiful...try n find one with lowest miles and has been wrecked badly then u know its good, the maximas dont have transmission problems so 90 percent of them in their are still good unless its been raced or any performance parts on it...Good luck.

The tranny has a bad odor to it that's a bad tranny and a bad fluid stay away from it. the color is gonna have red or brown color with metal shavings .The tranny has to be token apart or atleast installed to really know if the tranny is good. The tranny with low miles can be goos but you won't know for sure tell the tranny has been installed, it could be in limp mode or it was abused ect.

if it was in limp mode the auto tranny would just stay in third wouldnt it??? cuzz i hit a huge puddle one day and it went into limp mode and i was stuck in third till i restarted the car.

also if its in limp mode a mac truck could beat you 0-60 easy.

I know technology has came a long way since but 10 years ago when i had my 90 accord, the tranny would not shift and thus keeping me from getting to a higher speed obviously. We were gonna buy a used trans from the junkyard until the guy told us these year accords have a common problem with the transmission solenoids going bad. There was a solenoid that controlled 1st and 2nd gear and a second solenoid controlling 3rd and 4th gear. We paid like $20 and the solenoid only took 2 bolts to put on, on the outside of the tranny. Cant say if these trannys have anything near the same thing. Only input i can offer sorry

sounds like you have to adjust the transmission shift cable.

Aren't you the guy that accidentally cut the solenoid wire? Did you solder it like was suggested?
