Overheating at stop light?
My girlfriend's Maxima, 1995, was running pretty good for the year that she owned it. Yesterday, she was complaining that the temp needle stays in the middle while driving, but when at a stop light it goes up to 3/4 the way, then goes back down when driving again...I'm thinking this a sign of a bad thermostat? Can anyone else throw in some advice?

Check for low coolant. If coolant if fine, check your fans. Turn on the car, wait or drive around until you reach operating temperature. Leave the car on, open the hood, go outside, wait until the fans kick in (have your girlfriend keep an eye out on the temperature needle). If the needle starts creeping up and your fan don't kick in, then you found your problem. Turn off the car before the car starts overheating. Report back.

like nealoc said, if its just at idle then your fans arent working. Bring your car up to temp, pop the hood and wait for the fans to come on. If they dont fairly quickly at idle then you need new fans. Easy job, literally 2 bolts I believe or maybe 4
