It's a 4speed auto. All Maximas 4th gen and later were 4 speed autos until the CVT.

The 6 gen came with a 5 speed auto as well.

As for the OP, if you say it's really the OEM tranny, then it's a 4 speed.

Its not a matter of opinion, but rather a matter of fact. Torque converters multiply torque at the expense of RPM. Driving with the converter unlocked you lose a couple hundred RPM, this is why manual transmissions are more fuel efficient. When the converter locks you will see a decrease in RPM of up to a couple hundred, and you will feel what you interperate as a shift to a higher gear. A video will just confirm the reality, your understanding is the only problem here.
