A/T is a losing battle

So ive tried searching, no luck.

Im throwing two error codes, a p1440 and a p1447, tranny speed sensor, and a/t control unit fault.

I have inspection next month and i have no idea wat im going to do.

is it possible to only replace the TCU with out ripping the tranny apart. my only other options are replace the tranny, put in a ECU for a M/T, or do a full swap.

The problem is i have like $30 to my name and i commute to college.

anyone have any valuble insight?????? and im not looking for the generic just go manual answer, cuzz thats kind of my last resort.

Thanks

Can't swap in a manual tranny ECU. Delete the codes the day of inspection

To start with, P1440 and P1447 are not transmission codes. They are pollution/emission control codes. If your state puts a sniffer tube up the tailpipe, you will fail whether the codes are cleared out or not.

P1440 - EGRC Solenoid Valve

P1447 - Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Control System Purge Flow Monitoring

The P0500 & P0600 could be a wiring problem as well as defective parts. The P0600 is saying the ECU isn't getting a signal. The P0500 says that signal is from the VSS.

before you buy any parts, check the VSS wire connector and wiring for damage. Then check the wire continuity for the VSS between the VSS connector and the ECU connector. If the wires have continuity, then you have a defective part, maybe the VSS.

Download the service manual. Section IDX.pdf is the alphabetical index, section EL is the electrical wiring section and section EC is the engine control section that discusses these errors and has troubleshooting proceedures. The EC section has its own index, look up P0500 & P0600. Start with the P0600.

The TCM, the VSS and the ECU are all separate items that can be replaced by themselves. Replacing the entire transmission is not necessary.

The TCM is inside the car on the "transmission hump", just forward of the shift lever, approximately under the radio. The ECU is also inside the car, on the hump all the way froward next to the firewall. The VSS is attached to the transmission behind the left front wheel.

The VSS is part # 32702-32U00, $28 new. Find a junk yard, probably $5. All 4th gens (95-99) use the same VSS.
