does anyone know what this wire is?
it's the single black wire that connects on top of the a/c compressor. the first time I changed my alternator I went under and started unbolting and until I got the alternator out. and when I pulled the a/c compressor down I ripped the wire out. the plastic connectors were still connected, I just pulled the wire out of the connector. what does this wire do? and how can I fix it? I'm assuming it's power for it somehow. and it's started to approach 100 degrees now so I need my ac lol.
I can upload pics if need be.

This post confuses me. It seems you know where the wire came from, the compressor, so why not just plug it/splice back in where it goes? Edit: who cares what the wire does? It makes your ac work...plug it back in where it goes and be done with it

I believe we're talking about the connector for the field coil (E41 on FSM HA-43 [Manual]/HA-93 [Auto]), I just went out and looked at mine and it looks like that's what it is (based on location and it being single-wire).
As for fixing it, you can try to force the wire back into the connector (not very secure, but may work for a while), you can get a junkyard connector and just splice it in, or you can repair the connector.

I was unsure because when the wire is unplugged, and I turn on the ac, I can hear it kick on, the rpms drop down a little for a split second, and I can see a small voltage drop but then it goes back up. but it didn't blow cold. I plugged it back in when I went to work today, and the ac worked, but after I hit the first speed bump down my street, it came undone and said f it. lol
