Gas gauge doesn't read full

Hey guys noticed for a while now that when I fill up it will no longer read full on the gauge for the first 50 miles or so before it moves it'll dip back and forth between full and a little above the 1/4 mark. Even when I fill up only on ocassion will the needle read full usually it'll be just below the mark.

I had issues with the idle surging during cold starts which I will replace with a new fpr. Is this related? Bad fuel sending unit?

Mine used to do that. It will happen if I try to top off the tank. It will stay right below the full mark then go back up then go halfway down to the next line and stay there until I have actually used that amount of fuel. When I fill up the tank and stop when the pump stops it reads full. Do you pump gas after the pump clicks? If so try not doing it and see if it goes away, thats what happened with me. Good Luck!

lol. No I never did that with the Max but with this recent issue I went past the click to see if that would help. It didn't. I'm probably going to top off the tank again tonight or tomorrow to see. Don't think it's something so trivial though..

Has your fuel pump ever been replaced?

Huh?? When the nozzle 'clicks' and stops dispensing gas, you're done.

From what I understand never top off your gas tank. It needs some space, I am guessing for the pressure to work correctly.
