Which 02 sensors typically fail on the 99 Fed-spec cars?

My buddy has a 99 I30t and it's obvisously a Fed-spec model with 4 02 sensors. Last week the CEL came on and according to the scan at Autozone, the issue was a faulty 02 sensor. Which one 02 sensor wasn't made clear to him or the guy at Autozone. I'm going to run my laptop OBDII scanner on his I30 and see which 02 sensor threw the code. It's my understanding there are three 02 sensors in the front downpipe and one in the rear and nothing by the main cat like the 95-97 cars. My question is, which of these 02 sensors typically failed? I know on the 95-97 cars it is usually the downpipe sensors and not the cat sensor. The 99 is a bit of an oddity.

Cali spec has 4 o2's

The code should refer to as per the FSM, b1 s1, or b1s2 etc.

B = Bank, S = sensor.

99 I30 Federal emissions has 3 O2 sensors, two in front & one in the rear. I just replaced my rear one after the convertor.

My experience with my car and others, this is the first one to fail and the most common.

I'm sorry, I think I meant Cali-spec. When I popped the hood on the I30, I saw an 02 sensor in the front manifold at the top of the precat. There appeared to be three all weather packs for the 02 sensors mounted on a rail in front of the front manifold. There was also an all weather pack for an 02 sensor mounted on the top rear passenger side of the intake manifold. I know this pack is for the rear downpipe sensor. It sure appears to me that there are three 92 sensors in the front pipe and one in the rear pipe and nothing by the rear cat. I don't have my Chiltons for my Maxima anymore so I'm clueless about these Cali-spec cars. I believe the car came from Chicago or Jersey.

So this is what we came up with on the OBDII scanner. It was code P0138 Bank 1, Sensor 2. Code P0138 supposedly correspondes to trouble code 0510. We looked under his car and sure enough, there are 4 o2 sensors. One in the top of front manifold, one near the front engine mount, one in the y-pipe junction where the two downpipes converge, and one near the near rear engine mount in the rear downpipe. The lower front 02 sensor and the sensor at y-pipe junction are 4 wire sensors which means they're heated.

My question is which damn sensor is it? I cleared the code and it hasn't returned after a few hours of driving.

0510
Diagnostic Trouble Code 0510 points to a problem with the Rear Heated Oxygen Sensor. This sensor is mounted in the exhaust stream, just downstream of the Catalytic Converter. When the two Front Heated Oxygen Sensors are operating properly the Rear Heated Oxygen Sensor is not used for engine control operation. It is used to monitor the condition of the Catalytic Converter. If either or both Front Sensors fail the Engine Control Module uses the signal from the Rear Sensor to maintain a correct fuel/air mixture.

DTC 0510 is detected when the signal from the Rear Heated Oxygen Sensor does not reach the expected maximum voltage threshold value. The possible causes include ...
- Harness or connectors (the sensor circuit is open or shorted.)
- Rear Heated Oxygen Sensor
- Fuel pressure
- Fuel injectors
- Intake air leaks
