Corner Lights 101

I searched for some threads pertaining to opening up the corner lights. Hadmans "true clear corner" probably wouldve been the best but the picture links were dead. I have some NZ and UK corners I want to run lights in so I decided to figure it out myself. Mike mentioned he had swapped lots of corner light lenses and I have successfully done the same and I have some pictures. James showed good pictures on how he got lights in his NZ corners, but this to me seems a lot easier if you have the patience.

Best part is: Nothing goes in the oven! I went to Home Depot this morning and bought a dual-temperature heat gun for $25 including tax. I also had a flat blade screwdriver that I only used for brief periods and with extreme caution; you dont want to do any prying against the lens itself.

The corner light assembly is pretty easy to take apart. If youve taken off headlight glass, then you can take a corner light apart, same theory. I will say it does take some patience and finesse to remove the lense properly.

I started with a NOS R US corner I got on ebay for like $10. Its the only US corner light I have at the moment lol. I planned on putting an NZ corner lens on its backing, but decided to put the UK corner lens on instead. I didnt initially plan on having the 194 in my UK corners, but I can always open up the assembly again and put the dummy reflector back in, since I saved it.

I had to run the heat gun around where the lens is sealed for quite a while to loosen up the lens. It uses the same exact seal as the headlights do...so keep that in mind: you dont want to get it everywhere, on the lens, or inside the face of the housing.

Start prying the lens from the front of the corner light, like you first do when you remove it from the car: away from the headlight. Once that has come up there are 2 tabs on the bottom that hold it in. You have to get it free of the two bottom tabs before you can free it from the one tab on top. Keep warming the seal as you pry its best to have it warm. Dont pry too hard, or try to get the top seal to come loose first. Just today I removed the NOS US corners lens and a used UK corner lens without damaging either one!

The dummy reflector inside this UK corner had slipped out of place, so it warranted me opening it up

Didnt have any Amber 194s or white 1157s for that matter. With these Ill run an Amber 194 that acts as a sidemarker and unison blinker. The other bulb will be a white 1156 that only comes on with the signal.

I made some harnesses for my front end awhile ago...I wanted to have a lot of options so I made a harness and the options are galore

The wires going behind the headlight actually go to the front bumper signal, one for power for the parking light (using an 1157) and a wire to tap the blinker signal for the relay. The relay cuts the parking light out when the blinker is on...the relay also runs the fender indicator. It has plugs for a stock US corner light harness, and a NZ corner harness which is an 1156; just the cornering light. The fender indicator plug can also twist into the corner light (194 bulb) for a blinking sidemarker. The only flaw is that is if you're using the fender indicator socket, the front blinkers are 35w because the parking lights start to blink as well...if not using the fender indicator socket I could unplug a wire from the relay for the regular 27w signal, but I dont mind it

here is a short video showing the corner lights with 1157ambers and 194amber using the fender indicator socket...the bumper signal is 35w in this video
