Like someone mentioned, all US 3rd gens have auto seatbelts. Actually, there was a law in the US mandating all cars (not trucks) in the US have auto seat belts or airbags by 1990. Most companies put in the auto seatbelts, so around 1988 to 1993 virtually every car had auto seatbelts and the new law was for all cars to have driver side airbags for MY 1994.

The Maxima in 1992 had airbag as an option, then it was standard for 1993+

Someone also mentioned the warranty. Beginning in 1989, Nissan offered a lifetime warranty on all seat belts. The warranty covers safety issues (so you can't go in if they are just dirty). Mine were frayed, so I went to the dealer and pitched a fit and they were replaced. The front seatbelts (both) are one unit, so they have to replace them together.
Even if you were closer, I wouldn't be able to buy it anytime soon. Being in between jobs has sucked up most of my cash. So hopefully in about a year or so, I'll have enough money saved up to pay cash for a secondary car. By that time, it's difficult to say what I'll still want to purchase. I tend to have automotive a.d.d. when it comes to things like this

Today I was browsing around on Craig's List and found a couple of 3rd gens, and a few more 4th gens. Only one listed had a manual, and it was a 4th gen. They ranged in price from a $500 "mechanic's special" to about $3,500 or so.

I've also been doing some research to see what options were offered on 3rd gens, and what years they were available. From what i've found, 93's got a Bose stereo, and CFC free a/c. I didn't find any information on any type of cold weather package, or if heated seats were optional.

no heated seats. my GXE had everything but leather and a sunroof, had heated mirrors though.

the only thing is non-ABS GXE had drum brakes. ABS GXE and all SE had disks in the back, i never had seen a 3rd gen with drums in the back and about 2 months ago i was looking at 3rd gens at the junkyard i found one lol. thankfully after some work on the car a ABS sensor broke and i lost my ABS, i cant stand ABS so i was happy

GXE had numberpad entry too, worked awesome when my locks froze in winter lol. then my door lock timer broke and they never worked. you can also open the trunk and windows from the keypad

I had an 89 SHO with the keypad. I really liked it. Is the keypad available on the SE, or only on the GXE?

keypads were GXE only. other thing is SE had stiffer springs and were a bit lower but thats not huge, you can put SE springs on a GXE.

I used the keypad on my SHO all the time. I would go to parties and some of the **** people at said parties wanted you to give up your keys and put them in a bucket. I told them I locked them in my car, which I did.

There were not a lot of options, since most things were standard.

If you are looking for a VE 5-speed (SE), the only options were ABS, leather, power seats, moonroof and airbag (92 option only, standard 93-94). I think all SEs have Bose, but I could be wrong about that and CD player might have been an option in 93-94. I think mud flaps were installed on some cars, but I don't know if that was by the dealer or not. Of course, some people might have been too cheap for floor mats, too.

Oh, one other "option" was paying extra for the CH0 Satin White Pearl Metallic Tri-Coat paint. I think it's the only paint that cost extra.

Finding a non-moonroof car is pretty rare. I have only seen one in person and it was a local .org member who hasn't been on the site in many years.

must be different for Canadian spec, most ive seen dont have moonroofs

the keypad was boss though, awesome to open the trunk and windows without the key

i think mudflaps were factory, the screws for them were what caused my wheelwell rust though. thats the other thing, the main rust area for 3rd gens is the water drain where the rear doors meet the rear wheelwell

I do prefer leather, but taking the age of the car into consideration, trying to find one that had the leather taken care of might be a challenge. I do know an upholstry guy that charges good prices. We used to contract out work to him at the dealership I used to work at, so I could get a good hook up if i need some work done.

ABS would also be good to have. People here don't know how to drive when it rains, and there's been numerous accidents i've avoided because of ABS allowing me to be able to stop and steer straight when it's wet. I've owned non ABS cars before, and i've flat spotted a few tires by having to jam on the brakes. Even though ABS isn't a big necessity for me, I would prefer to have it, since I would have to keep reminding myself that when i'm driving, I don't have ABS so I would need to pay more attention just in case.

If you do the keypad mod theres a bit of wiring you have to deal with. Another minor thing I noticed is with some SEs have the maxima on the center piece on the trunk in black letters while others were clear. Mine was clear until I painted it.

I'm not the best at wiring, so that will have to take some research. I'll cross that bridge when, or if, I get to it.

Thats kool. VE 5spds sometimes aren't that easy to come across on CL. They're usually something u come across in the streets. But thats the ideal set up to find in a 3rd gen.

Damn I gotta fix my linkage so I can go out and play.

yeah, it's going to be like finding a needle in a haystack, similar to trying to find an 02-03 VQ35 6-speed, at least around here anyways.

Back when I was looking 3 years ago there were a bunch on cl. then as months went by they all slowly disappeared. But I found and bought mine for $300. Then rebuilt the entire car. With determination and patience you can find one.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't a VG a VE with different heads, and a timing chain instead of belt? Or are the blocks and reciprocating components different?

I don't know why they are called jdm VEs. All were manufactured in Japan. What I do know is that the cps and a few other components are different than the ones here in the North America.
